SuperGibo photographs elopements and intimate weddings across Auckland and New Zealand — registry and city ceremonies, coastal and mountain locations, and helicopter elopements in Queenstown and Wanaka. We also photograph couples who fly in and marry while travelling the country — there is no residency requirement in New Zealand. Coverage can be as short as a couple of hours, and photography and film come from the same team.
Eloping is not a lesser wedding
Some of the most beautiful days we’ve ever photographed had fewer than ten people at them. A marina at golden hour. A black-sand beach in the rain. A mountaintop you can only reach by helicopter. Elopements strip a wedding back to what actually matters — and the photos show it.
We photograph elopements all over Auckland — Muriwai, Bethells, Waiheke, the city — and travel weekly to Queenstown and Wanaka for mountain and heli elopements. Photo and film together, so your family can still live the day with you.
Marry here while you
see the country
A growing number of the couples we photograph are not New Zealanders. They fly in for two or three weeks, drive the country, and get married somewhere along the way — a black-sand beach on the west coast, a lake edge in Wanaka, a ridge above Queenstown you reach by helicopter. The wedding becomes part of the trip rather than the reason for it.
It works because New Zealand makes it easy. There is no residency requirement to marry here, the paperwork is short, and the distances are small enough that you can be on a beach in Auckland one week and in the mountains the next. We shoot in both, so the same team can meet you wherever the day lands.
Tell us your rough itinerary and we will tell you honestly where the light is best, how much time to leave, and whether a location needs a permit. If your dates are still loose, that is usually an advantage — it lets us put you in the right place at the right hour instead of the other way round.
Before you elope
Can we get married in New Zealand if we live overseas?
Yes. There is no residency or waiting requirement — you apply for a marriage licence before you arrive or shortly after you land, and it is valid for three months. Most couples who fly in have it sorted well before the day. We are photographers rather than celebrants, so we will point you at the official process rather than guess at it, and your celebrant will walk you through the form.
How short can coverage be?
A couple of hours is enough for a ceremony and portraits. Some couples book two hours at a beach at golden hour; others take a full day and move between locations. We price by what the day actually needs rather than a fixed minimum.
Where do you photograph elopements?
All over Auckland — Muriwai, Bethells, Waiheke, the city and the registry office — and we travel regularly to Queenstown and Wanaka for mountain, lake and helicopter elopements. If you are driving the country and want somewhere in between, ask; we would rather meet you where the trip takes you.
Do we need witnesses?
Two, legally. If it is just the two of you we can help arrange them — and if it comes to it, your photographer and celebrant have signed a few marriage licences over the years.
Can you film it as well as photograph it?
Yes, and it is the same team on the same day rather than two suppliers meeting for the first time at your ceremony. A short film matters more at an elopement than almost anywhere else, because the people who could not be there will watch it.
What happens if the weather turns?
We keep shooting. Some of the best elopement photographs we have taken were in rain on a black-sand beach. For heli days the pilot makes the call on the morning, and we build a ground-level alternative into the plan so the day still happens.
How far ahead should we book?
As soon as your dates firm up, especially for summer and for Queenstown. That said, elopements are the one thing we can sometimes turn around at short notice — if your trip is close, ask anyway.
What does an elopement cost?
It depends on hours, locations and whether you want film as well — see Services & Pricing for a starting point and tell us your dates. A deposit holds the date and the balance is due a month before.
